He'd never even left his village in New Jersey. So when he stormed the Normandy beaches with 150,000 of his fellow soldiers, June 6, 1944 became the most important day of his life. The young Jewish American landed at Utah Beach and went on to play a part in the liberation of the Gardelegen Concentration Camp, about 100 miles west of Berlin.
